wotw, heuristic

Means a quick rule of thumb. something you can use to approximate a result really quickly.
Means a quick mental shortcut.

Like if i asked you how long would it take my money to double at 8% annual interest?
My answer, in a flash would be 9 years.

How did I know that, so quickly?

Because I used a quick heuristic. The Rule of 72.
If I divide 72 by the rate of interest, I can quickly get a grasp of how quickly my money will double.

wotw, kilogram

the mass of a cylinder, stored in a locked vault in Paris. all the other kilograms must match the mass of this one!

courtesy, wikimedia

Er no, not any more :) our standard of mass is now based on an infinitesimally small constant of the universe, the relation of the energy of a photon to its frequency.

Derek Muller explains,

wotw, mise en place

ok, switching to wotw instead of wotd, because i can’t keep up otherwise :)

mise en place means having everything ready before you start, everything in its own place.

handy when it comes to writing code too.

wotd, Ineffable

if you’re following the #goodomens craze you’ll bump into this word a lot.

means unknowable.
don't know. but i know it is holy and sacred. so won’t talk about it. that kind of feeling.

wotd, halcyon

an amazing peaceful prosperous time

throwback to a golden age!

woh halcyon din

testing federation! will i see this on my toots page if i follow it?

psa my blogs handle is @jason@blogs.dgplug.org

wotd, Robot

from Karel Capek’s, play Rossumovi Univerzální Roboti.

means serf labour. slave.

More here.

wotd, supercalifragilisticexpialidocius

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious! If you say it loud enough, you'll always sound precocious,

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Um-diddle-diddle-um-diddleye Um-diddle-diddle-um-diddleye

Here’s to a new journey.
